Why Engagement Sessions are an Important Part of the Wedding Experience
Happy New Year! I hope these first few days of 2018 have been off to a beautiful start for you. This is one of my favorite times of the year because I love seeing all of the proposal stories that pop up in my social feeds! We're in the heart of engagement season (a.k.a the time between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day when many couples get engaged) which means Arturo and I have seen an influx of inquiries come in for 2018 and 2019 weddings. I've enjoyed chatting with these couples and hearing all about the love stories they each share!
As some of you know, all of our wedding collections include a complimentary engagement session. While most couples love this, others feel they don't need it and ask if they can trade it out for an extra hour of wedding day coverage. As much as it hurts my heart to say no to people when it comes to anything regarding their wedding photography, this is one area that I firmly believe is essential to the experience Arturo and I provide our couples! When your wedding day arrives, we want you both to feel like it is being captured by friends rather than two strangers who you hired simply to document your day. We enjoy getting to know our couples on a personal level before their wedding arrives, and the engagement session plays a big part in allowing us to do so!
Think of the engagement session like practice for your wedding day; all of the poses or prompts I'll ask you to do during your session are the same ones I'll ask you to do on your big day. It gives you an idea of how we work, so by the time your wedding arrives you guys will be total pros in front of our cameras! You'll feel more at ease during your portrait session on the wedding day, which pays off in so many wonderful ways!
The engagement session is a fun, laid-back hour that we spend together where we get to know you, but you also get to know us! As we become more familiar with each other, you'll feel a certain level of trust being established with us, which re-emerges on your wedding day. This is incredibly important because whether you know it or not, having that trust and feeling of ease while working with us will totally shine through your wedding day photos!
If there's one point I wanted to get across in this post, it's to build trust with your wedding photographer. Wedding days have your mind going a million miles a minute as is, so the last thing you should worry about is feeling uncomfortable in front of our cameras!
If you're recently engaged and looking to learn more about our engagement sessions or wedding collections, please fill out your information on our inquiry form and we'll gladly send them right over!
