Max and Maiden Ink | Vendor Love
I LOVE all kinds of wedding details, but I have a soft spot in my heart for wedding stationery and day-of paper. It might be because of the fact that I almost majored in graphic design in college, but more so that I’m always in awe of the talent which my friends who are stationery designers possess. Jennifer Mulholland of Max and Maiden Ink is one of those industry friends whose work I can never get enough of! Anytime one of her posts pops in my Instagram feed, I admire the elegance and detail of her wedding stationery designs.
I worked with Jennifer twice last year, and I knew I wanted to feature Max and Maiden Ink in our Vendor Love series to share more of her lovely work with you! Read on to learn a bit about Jennifer, her process, and her stationery design business!
Tell me a bit about you and your business! How did you get started in the wedding industry?
"Well I am a mother of three beautiful boys that inspired the name of my business, I love the outdoors, and my love of paper and all things pretty is only rivaled by my love of cake! I started out in a small local boutique about 13 years ago. I sent them a few samples that I had designed and they had me come in for an interview. From there I became their custom stationery "gal" for the next four years. I learned so much in that position and then branched out on my own.”
What do you love most about your stationery design?
"What I love most about stationery design is being able to bring in those very special details that speak a couple’s love story. I love adding in a special scene or venue illustration that might be significant to the client and I am smitten with the creation of a custom watercolor crest. The ways to truly personalize your suite are endless. The more the better if you ask me!”
What should couples know about your process and about working with you?
"Couples should know that when working with me we are together from the initial collaboration to the final completion. It's a journey and many times the invitation actually evolves along the way. So many times a bride comes to me with an idea and then it morphs into something else completely different. I am here to guide the client through the whole process and make it seamless.”
What is your favorite part about working with couples who are planning their wedding day?
"My favorite part is the bond we build along the way. Sometimes I talk to my clients so much that I miss them when they are gone. The invitation is truly the first glimpse into their event and it's an exciting thing to help my client make that a unique experience for their guests.”
What (or who) inspires your creativity?
"I have to say, each couple inspires me. Their love story, their vision and that "dream" wedding that they can't wait to have. I have found that if I keep concentrating on the experience I provide to my client, the business just comes.”
How early should couples book you to ensure you'll be available for their wedding day?
"I have no problem starting to book a client a year in advance. Especially if save the dates are needed, we want to get them out in a timely manner. Also, I feel like the more time the better. It's better to have extra time rather than not enough.”
What is one tip or piece of advice you'd give a couple for their wedding day?
"Oh this is my favorite. BE PRESENT. This day that you have planned for so long in your head, on paper and over the years is here and it will be gone in the blink of an eye. Please stop many times during your wedding day with your new spouse and take it all in, be present, enjoy the food, mingle with your guests and dance with everyone. Feel all the love and the joy taking place all around you.”
