AN UNTERMYER GARDENS ENGAGEMENT SESSION
I was one happy photographer during Wydnne and Joe’s engagement session at Untermyer Gardens in Yonkers, New York this week! When you mix picturesque gardens and beautiful, historical architecture, you have the recipe the portrait location of my dreams. I felt like I’d been transported to the stunning European countryside! When I was pursuing my photography degree in college, visual arts students were required to take a few art history courses. These classes were probably some of my least favorites, but my goodness they certainly gave me the appreciation I have for historical architecture today!
As we walked into the first garden I gasped in total awe, admittedly louder than I realized! We entered under two large trees with leaves and branches that danced along the garden floor as the slight breeze passed through them. Beautiful fountains ran the length of the garden, leading to two incredible architectural posts at the end. If you’ve ever seen the movie Crazy Rich Asians, there’s a spectacular wedding scene that reminded me of this garden! What made their session even better was that we had the entire park to ourselves since Untermyer Gardens is currently only open to the public Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
As we walked around the park, Joe and Wydnne shared all about their wedding plans. Though they were originally supposed to get married later this month, the two decided to postpone due to the pandemic. Even so, these guys had the most beautiful smiles beaming across their faces during the entirety of their session!
THE PROPOSAL STORY
Joe’s friends were visiting from out of town, so Wydnne and Joe decided to show them around the area. They had made dinner plans at a nearby restaurant but were spending some time that afternoon at Astoria Park. Joe and Wydnne were walking on the pathway that runs parallel to the river when she noticed his parents, her mom, and even her dad (who lives in Florida!) were all gathered together in the park. A little confused, Wydnne asked what they were all doing there, and before she knew it, Joe was down on one knee asking her to marry him! She was totally taken aback, but of course, said yes!!
These two are getting married in April at Greentree Country Club, and I cannot wait to see their day come to life! Congratulations Wydnne and Joe!
