The Met Cloisters Engagement Session in New York City | Teresa & Nick
When Teresa and Nick reached out looking for a photographer for their engagement session at The Met Cloisters at Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan I had a hard time containing myself! It's a location that I'd been wanting to photograph one of my couples at for a while, and I'm so thankful to have finally had the opportunity to do so! The Cloisters are located on four acres of beautiful land with views overlooking the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge. It's also a museum dedicated to the art, architecture, and gardens of medieval Europe. If you've been reading my blog or following me on Instagram, you'll know that any location with stunning architecture will always have my heart! As it turns out, we couldn't actually go inside the museum for photos so instead, we walked around the perimeter of the museum property and explored Fort Tryon Park. We were still able to get great views of the architecture of The Cloisters and the Hudson River!
I had an absolute BLAST with Nick and Teresa during their engagement session. They're both super sweet and so fun to work with. During our walk throughout the park, I learned that they're both professional musicians; Teresa is an opera singer and Nick is the band director at the same high school I graduated from in Wilton, Connecticut. It was fun to hear about some of the teachers he works with are some of the same teachers I had when I was a student there, including my photography and studio art teachers! Though we were bummed we wouldn't be able to utilize the architecture of The Met Cloisters for their engagement photos, Teresa, Nick, and I came across the most beautiful archways tucked away on one of the walkways in the park, which more than made up for us not being able to take photos within the museum!
On the day Nick proposed to Teresa, they were in Breckenridge, Colorado eating cheese and drinking wine while the sun was setting behind the mountains. Nick had planned on doing it the following day during a scenic drive, but couldn’t wait and knew the moment was perfect! He put on the music they had imagined Teresa walking down the aisle to one day, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him!! Talk about a magical moment! These two sweethearts are getting married in Teresa's small hometown of Laramie, Wyoming next summer! Congratulations you two!
When did you know you'd found "the one"?
Teresa: "After our first date, I immediately called my sister and told her I thought this could be the man I would marry someday. Ever since that first date, the feeling has only gotten stronger. He is so patient, kind, caring and loving. He supports me in every single aspect of life and is a huge hit with all of my family and friends. The fact that he is incredibly handsome and tall is an added bonus! There has never been a question in my mind if he was the right one!"
Nick: "Very early on, I knew Teresa was so special. We had fun no matter what we were doing, and we have always been able to enjoy and appreciate so many different things together. We had fun every minute together right off the bat. She is so loving, caring, and supportive, and she comes from a wonderful family. Couple that with how stunningly beautiful she is, and I couldn’t believe how fortunate and blessed I was to have her in my life. It was a no-brainer. I’m the luckiest person ever!"
What's one thing you love about your partner?
Teresa: "He always strives to be the best man that he can be, in every aspect of life."
Nick: "She always puts others before herself, she is totally selfless and loving."
Besides getting married, what is one thing you're looking forward to on your wedding day?
Teresa: "Having our worlds collide and having everyone in my hometown of little Laramie, Wyoming will be unforgettable. We are also musicians with musical families and friends. The music during the ceremony is going to be so special!"
Nick: "Getting all of our friends and family together for a great party! We both have friends and family from far away, so we can’t wait to see everyone in the same place."
What's one thing you're looking forward to about marriage?
Teresa: "Having someone by my side through thick and thin through all of the good and all of the bad that life will bring. I love knowing I will have someone to count on no matter what, who will help me make hard decisions, or even to just be there to rub my back and give me a hug after I’ve had a hard day. I love knowing he’ll be there every step of the way!"
Nick: "Always having a partner there for me who I can count on for anything, and having someone to count on me in return. Teresa inspires me to be the best version of myself, and I want to do that for her."
