The Briarcliff Manor Wedding in Briarcliff Manor, NY | Carley & Shawn
A WEDDING AT THE BRIARCLIFF MANOR
Carley and Shawn’s summer wedding at The Briarcliff Manor, located in a quaint little village in the Hudson Valley, was beautiful from beginning to end! These two originally planned their wedding for last summer, but unfortunately had to postpone their day to this August instead. However, it was worth the wait, because these two are FINALLY married!
The Briarcliff Manor is a historical estate featuring stunning architecture and intricate details throughout the property. It has plenty of old-world charm which makes the mansion a wonderful backdrop for portraits! If you’ve been following along with our blog for a while, you know how much Arturo and I enjoy historical architecture and this venue didn’t disappoint.
After getting ready for the festivities ahead, Shawn and Carley shared a first look on the front lawn of The Briarcliff Manor. After finishing up portraits, it was time to get these two down the aisle! The new Mr. & Mrs. were married on a muggy day, but luckily we had overcast skies that evening to shield us from any extra heat that the sun would have otherwise given off. Their photos are a perfect example of why couples shouldn’t worry about cloudy wedding days; overcast skies are actually FANTASTIC for outdoor wedding portraits, while still allowing Arturo and I to capture bright, colorful, and light-filled images.
We love it when our couples set aside a few extra minutes for newlywed portraits before going to their cocktail hour, which Carley and Shawn were sure to do! It allowed us to capture those “Just Married” feelings, big smiles and all. Later that evening, the bride and groom were celebrated by their family and friends late into the night with fantastic music and plenty of dancing!
THE LOVE STORY
Back in the summer of 2011, Shawn and Carley met at a Sounders game in the rowdy fan section. Carley happened to be in Seattle for the first time visiting one of her good friends, Emily, who lived there. As fate would have it, Emily brought Carley to a game where she and Shawn ended up sitting next to each other! The two spent time together during Carley’s trip to Seattle. When her visit was over, she flew back home to the East Coast, but she and Shawn continued to text every Friday for over a year.
In January of 2013, Shawn flew to Washington DC to visit Carley while she was living there and attending George Washington University. They had finally reunited and spent the weekend together exploring the city. Over her spring break that March, Carley flew back out to Seattle to visit Shawn. From there, they decided they were committed to each other and spent the next three and a half years flying from coast to coast to spend time together. Sometimes they would even meet up in different cities such as Nashville, Tennessee and Austin, Texas!
In 2016, after a cross-country road trip, Carley moved to Seattle where she and Shawn decided to move in together. Since then, they’ve discovered their love of hiking, traveling, road-tripping to different national parks, and more!
Congratulations Carley and Shawn! Wishing you many great adventures ahead!
