Waveny Park Engagement Session in New Canaan, CT | Leah & Bobby
A WAVENY PARK ENGAGEMENT SESSION
We had the most lovely fall evening for Leah and Bobby’s November engagement session at Waveny Park in New Canaan, Connecticut! The temperatures were in the 50s, the sun was shining, and the romantic glow we had we unbelievable!! Last year Arturo and I photographed a TON of engagement sessions at Waveny Park, and this year we’ve only been there twice. It was fun and refreshing to be back at one of our favorite local portrait locations!
As we were chatting before their session started, Leah mentioned that she was a little anxious to step in front of the camera. I reassured her that she wasn’t alone in feeling this way… in fact, almost ALL of our couples tell us this is how they feel before the start of their engagement session! After being in front of our cameras for less than 10 minutes, Bobby and Leah found their flow and became total naturals!
These guys were full of smiles throughout their session! The way Bobby smiles at Leah is just so heartwarming, and the way she would snuggle into him was adorable! As I was editing their photos for this blog post, I kept finding myself smiling looking at how sweet these guys are together!
THE PROPOSAL STORY
One Friday last December, Bobby managed to take the day off from work without Leah knowing to go pick up the ring he’d chosen for Leah. That evening, he nervously paced around the apartment for an hour waiting for Leah to arrive home. Bobby called his parents, brother, and best friend several times, and even talked at their cat to give himself confidence!
When Leah got off her train ride from work, Bobby surprised her at the train station since she is always the first one home. The two walked on the path alongside the Hudson River between the train station and their apartment building. They stopped at a bench on the path and Bobby proposed! It was a chilly winter night, so after Leah said yes, they sprinted up to their apartment with great excitement and celebrated with champagne. Their evening ended as they called family and friends to share the wonderful news of their engagement!
These two are getting married in September at Rolling Hills Country Club in my hometown of Wilton, Connecticut, and I cannot wait to see what their wedding day holds! Congratulations Leah and Bobby!
When did you know you'd found "the one"?
Leah: “From the very beginning, everything between us just felt right. Being around Bobby was always so easy and I felt this weirdly deep sense of comfort and familiarity pretty much right away. I remember when we were first dating—I think this was our second date or so—we went out for dinner and drinks in the city. At the time I was living in Westchester and Bobby was in the Bronx, so we both took the Metro-North home but needed to take different trains. His train was a few minutes later than mine and we didn’t want the night to end, so we sat together on my train before it left Grand Central (and he literally had to sprint off before the doors closed). I knew then that what was happening was really special.”
Bobby: “Literally immediately. I'm not one to say it was love at first sight, but there was a connection from the very first time we ever spoke, which was actually through Twitter DM. When we first met in person, outside of her office on 45th and 6th in Manhattan, it was obvious that there was something different right away from the very first, ‘Is this a date?’ confused hug. We then spent three hours talking and eating at a bar nearby and hung out in Grand Central while we both waited for our respective trains. I even got on the wrong train, something I have never done before or since, because of how excited I was. I'd never felt anything like that in my life, and thankfully we've never looked back.”
What's one thing you love about your partner?
Leah: “It feels nearly impossible to just choose one thing! I truly love how determined and hardworking he is and find it so impressive how well he balances our relationship with everything he takes on. While Bobby was in grad school, he was working a day job, night job, and taking classes plus all the work his classes entailed. Even though we were living together we barely saw each other, but our relationship never suffered for it because he still made time for us when his schedule was super hectic.”
Bobby: “There are too many things to name, but since I'm being forced to choose one, I'll say her determination. Leah never settles for anything less than she deserves and doesn't let anyone she cares about do so either. It's a really rare quality and one that makes me a better person and partner, and I love her for it.”
Besides getting married, what is one thing you're looking forward to on your wedding day?
Leah: “Celebrating our marriage with our family and friends! It’s not very often that everyone you love is in one big room with you. I’m really looking forward to soaking that all in.”
Bobby: “I'm looking forward to spending the day with our friends and our family all in one place. We have friends and family from all over the country who have never once been in the same room at the same time, and we love each of them fiercely. It will be great for them to meet one another, for us to be around them, and for all of us to celebrate together.”
What's one thing you're looking forward to about marriage?
Leah: “All of the things! But mostly, starting a family together, and all the new adventures that will bring us.”
Bobby: “I'm really looking forward to knowing that, no matter what, I can always come home to Leah and rely on her counsel, emotional strength, and wisdom in all situations regardless of what happens during a given day. She is a rock and a steadying presence. It is a true comfort to know that she will be at my side no matter what life throws at us.”
