Waveny Park Spring Engagement Session in New Canaan, CT | Jenn & Joe
A SPRING ENGAGEMENT SESSION AT WAVENY PARK
Spring was certainly in the air for Jenn and Joe’s engagement session at Waveny Park in New Canaan, Connecticut! After some rain in the days before, the grounds around Waveny House are finally starting to look colorful again with lush green grass and cherry blossoms starting to bud on the surrounding trees. The timing could not have been more perfect for Joe and Jenn’s photos!
I had a wonderful time spending time with these two, chatting about their wedding plans and getting to know them a bit. Jenn and Joe are an incredibly fun pair with great senses of humor to boot! They were up for almost anything I threw at them as I photographed their engagement portraits, which made me that much more excited for their upcoming wedding day next spring!
THE PROPOSAL STORY
Joe and Jenn were engaged on a beautiful sunny Saturday last September. He had made brunch plans for the two of them to enjoy with their close friends at a local restaurant. Before heading to brunch, Joe asked their friends to meet him and Jenn at their favorite dog park near the water for a puppy playdate to ensure the pups would be tired out while everyone else enjoyed their meals later on. Jenn had no idea that this was a cover for Joe to set up his proposal!
While the dogs were running around, Joe handed Jenn a tube of tennis balls. He casually said to her, “I got these at the store for the dogs. Throw them one!” As Jenn opened the cap of the tube, she saw the word “Will” written on the first tennis ball. She immediately figured out that this was Joe’s proposal, but was totally surprised and in complete disbelief that it was actually happening! Jenn removed the first ball and found the “You” written on the second tennis ball. She removed the second ball which revealed the words “Marry Me?” on the third one. Jenn turned to Joe, who had a smile beaming across his face! He got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?!”.
Of course, she said yes, and now these two are planning a beautiful wedding for next April at the Barns at Wesleyan Hills. I know it’s going to be an incredible day, and I can’t wait for it to arrive! Congratulations Jenn and Joe!
When did you know you'd found "the one"?
Jenn: “I can't say there was a definitive moment. It was a combination of little things over time that made me fall in love with him and envision our future together. The way he really cared to get to know my family or would go far out of his way to drop me off at my apartment so I wouldn't have to take the train home. How he dropped everything to be there for his family during extreme hardship or how opened up to me about his goals and wanted to partner with me to achieve them. Our values, personalities, visions, and lives just seemed to fit together perfectly, and I quickly couldn't imagine my life without him!”
Joe: “From the day I met Jenn, I knew there was something special about her. She is the type of person I can be my whole shelf with. Together we always find ways to make the most of every situation. As our relationship grew, our goals and aspirations also started to grow together. I can't pinpoint the moment I knew she was the 'one', but I knew the feeling of wanting to have Jenn with me through all the highs and lows. Being displaced from our homes in New York, moving into our families’ spare rooms, buying a house, and then renovating it while living through it are all just a few things that have tested but strengthened our relationship. It's been a fun adventure so far and I am looking forward to the next chapter in our journey.”
What's one thing you love about your partner?
Jenn: “His selflessness. Joe will drop what he is doing to help the people that he loves, no matter how inconvenient it may be for him. It makes me feel so secure with him; I know he will have my back no matter what life throws at us. I do everything in my power to be as selfless for him, but he is undoubtedly better at it than me!”
Joe: “Jenn's contagious smile, which is complemented by her sense of humor, always brightens up a room of people. She is one of the most outgoing people I know, always willing to ensure everyone is included in the conversation. Her contagious personality is something I truly adore and it shows when you speak to Jenn's friends and family.”
Besides getting married, what is one thing you're looking forward to on your wedding day?
Jenn: “Having every person that we love together in one place.”
Joe: “Celebrating with family and friends. It’s the one time we will truly have everyone we love in the same room.”
What's one thing you're looking forward to about marriage?
Jenn: “Building a life together and watching our family grow. It's going to be so hard, and there will undoubtedly be difficult times, but I look forward to looking back on our life together when we are elderly, and having the privilege of saying ‘Wow, look at what we grew together.”
Joe: “I am excited to continue to grow our lives and family together. It’s going to be a roller-coaster of an adventure, but I know it will only make our relationship stronger.”
