A WEDDING PROPOSAL AT SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY

Mike’s wedding proposal to Tina at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut will certainly go down as one I’ll always remember! Our friends at Flowers by Danielle connected Mike and me last week, and we immediately got to work going over the details of how he planned to pop the question. Originally Mike had planned his proposal for the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, but the weather wasn’t in our favor so we pushed it to the following day. Luckily the sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky on Sunday, making the day even more wonderful!

Tina and Mike were engaged at their alma mater, Sacred Heart University, where they both graduated in 2018. The two met during their freshman year and have been together ever since, so it made the perfect place for Mike to ask Tina to marry him! Mike told Tina that he’d been in contact with a photographer (yours truly) who was working on a project photographing couples in quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic. Connecticut started reopening from lockdown just days before Mike’s proposal, so Tina thought nothing of our cover story! At the start of their photo session for my “quarantine project”, I met up with them, face mask and all, in the quad where they’d shared so many memories during their time at Sacred Heart University.

We made our way around the campus over the course of the next 45 minutes, stopping at different locations for portraits. I’d never visited Sacred Heart before, so it was a treat to get a personal tour from Tina and Mike! They shared fun facts about the school and pointed out all the different spots they’d spent time together years ago. Little did Tina know that this was her pre-engagement session!

As we rounded back to the quad near the chapel, Mike was getting ready to propose. Danielle and Jay of Flowers by Danielle had made a sign for the occasion that spelled out “Will You Marry Me?”. As luck would have it, there was another small group of people close to the sign when we rounded the corner of the chapel, and I knew if I brought Mike and Tina over too soon the other group would be in the background of the photos. Thank goodness they saw us coming and quickly moved away around the corner— WHEW!

Once I managed to get Tina and Mike in front of the sign (without her seeing it of course!), he turned her around to read it and began to cry sweet, joyful tears as they cuddled together for a few moments. Seconds later Mike dropped to one knee, which is really when Tina was taken by surprise! The sun must have been shining onto the beautiful diamond engagement ring just right, because the first thing I heard her say was, “It’s so sparkly!” After her initial shock, Tina said, “Yes!”, and Mike slid the ring onto her finger. The surprise didn’t end there though; Mike had arranged for their parents to join in on the occasion (they actually watched the proposal from a distance in the nearby parking lot)! Congratulatory hugs were exchanged and they popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate!

Congratulations Tina and Mike! It was an honor to have documented such a momentous day in your lives for you. Wishing you much love and happiness for years to come!
