Waveny Park Engagement Session in New Canaan, CT | Dorit & Sam
A WAVENY PARK ENGAGEMENT SESSION
It was an incredible treat to finally meet Dorit and Sam at their Waveny Park engagement session in New Canaan, Connecticut this week! Earlier that day the skies were gray and it was raining, but by the time their session started, the clouds had parted and the sun was shining. It illuminated the autumn colors of the trees beautifully for their engagement photos!
I like to describe Dorit as the Martha Stewart of our generation; she cooks, bakes, and is wildly creative! Earlier this month on her Instagram stories, Dorit was sharing throwbacks to previous years’ Halloween costumes that she and her friends had dreamt up and oh.my.word. they were amazing. Sam is equally talented; he gardens and even re-built a vintage Jeep from the 1970s, which made a cameo in some of their engagement photos!
We walked around the grounds of the Waveny House together, stopping in a few of my favorite spots to highlight the New England fall foliage in Sam and Dorit’s portraits. These two are a perfect pair, and it was such a joy for Arturo and me to spend time with them and capture their love in some pictures!
THE PROPOSAL STORY
After buying the perfect engagement ring for Dorit, it took Sam a couple of weeks to plan his wedding proposal. Out of luck, she planned a dinner with all of their parents on one of the days he was planning to ask to marry him. On the day Sam popped the question, he spent the whole afternoon setting up their back porch with string lights and remote luminary bags that spelled out "Marry me?". During dinner, Sam snuck out and got everything in place, including his cell phone and GoPro to get it all on video! Dorit called for him and asked where he was. He replied, “Come outside,” and he asked her to be his wife!
These two are getting married next October at The Inn at Longshore in Westport, Connecticut, and we are so excited for their day to come to life! Congratulations Dorit and Sam!!
When did you know you'd found "the one"?
Dorit: “For me, this happened early. The night I came back to our room from talking to Sam late into the night I told all of my girlfriends that I found my future husband! This was more of a joke at the time, but every moment with Sam since we met has felt right. Last year was particularly hard on me, losing two aunts within a few months of each other, and while I knew Sam and I were in for the long haul, his nurturing and caring side really sealed the deal for me while I went through a really tough time. He's always dropped everything to help me, and this is my most admired trait about him.”
Sam: “There isn't one specific time I felt this. I know she is the one because we share so many of the same interests. We both love to travel and adventure. It was also crazy to find out we both played and loved the game ‘Animal Crossing’ as kids.”
What's one thing you love about your partner?
Dorit: “I love his sense of humor. My favorite thing in the world is laughing and I'd like to think that Sam and I spend a great deal of our time together laughing… whether it be at weird stuff, dumb stuff, or truly hilarious stuff. Laughter really brings us together and being able to MAKE each other laugh is the cherry on top.”
Sam: “I love her love of travel. Dorit is an incredibly good planner and has planned some of my favorite trips.”
Besides getting married, what is one thing you're looking forward to on your wedding day?
Dorit: “Celebrating! Sam and I love parties and food, and it'll be really different to have the party be all about us...ha! I can’t imagine a more perfect day than being with all of our friends and smiling until my face hurts. I also secretly can't wait for Sam to put his goofy dance moves on full display.”
Sam: “Family, friends, cocktail hour, dancing, and cigars!”
What's one thing you're looking forward to about marriage?
Dorit: “In some ways, it almost feels like we're already married, but for me, the thing I look forward to most is celebrating milestones together, especially building a happy home. I can't wait to share a happy place with Sam, somewhere where we can do things we love (gardening, having friends over, celebrating holidays), and eventually have some babies! Although he'll tell you he CAN wait for that!”
Sam: “I look forward to continuing with what we have now!”
